Fukuoka prefecture is surrounded by the East China Sea in the north, Inland sea in the east and Ariake Sea in the south to which the Chikugo River that is flowing through the Chikugo plain pours the water. Also there are many natural attractions including Keya-oto Cave, one of the three besalt caves in Japan and the biggest of the three, and Hiraodai, one of the three karst landscapes, provides a magnificent scenery. There are many famous shrines, temples and castle sites, too. Fukuoka is a prefecture of high quality tradition and cultures that have been nurtured by the long history. Locals enjoy sports events like baseball, soccer and marathon, as well as many festivals like the representative "Hakata Dontaku" port festival. It is also renowned as a sake making prefecture. You can find commercial complex facilities in the center district of Fukuoka city and bayside areas where you can satisfy your needs from gourmet to shopping and amusements. You can try a wide varieties of sightseeing trains including Kyushu Shinkansen running between Hakata Station and Kagoshima Central Station, Nanatsuboshi, a luxury "cruising train," and Tabito, the Dazaifu Sightseeing Train. It is a good idea to travel around Kyushu island from Fukuoka as the hub.
